The game received an expansion pack by Cyberlore, titled Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, on April 30, 1996. Set six years after the events of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, where the Orcish invaders have conquered the kingdom of Azeroth and driven the Human survivors out through the Great Sea, the game pits the Orcs (now allied with trolls, ogres, and goblins) against the Human kingdom of Lordaeron (now allied with the high elves of Quel'thalas and the dwarves and gnomes of Khaz Modan). They must now go beyond the seas and conquer the Kingdom of Lordaeron, where the Humans and their allies have been preparing for the invasion.Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness is a medieval-fantasy real-time strategy game developed and published by Blizzard for the PC (running MS-DOS) and Macintosh on December 9, 1995.
Meanwhile the Orcs, although divided by many internal feuds, decide to follow a powerful new warlord Orgrim Doomhammer in pursuit of the Humans. The Humans then try to rally the different races populating the region such as the High Elves and the Dwarves in order to form a coalition capable of repelling the horde. Survivors led by Anduin Lothar fled by sea to the Kingdom of Lordaeron. Like its prequel, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness takes place in the medieval-fantasy world of Warcraft in which, following the events of the first game, the human kingdom of Azeroth has been invaded by the Orcs. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness is the official sequel of the original Warcraft: Orcs & Humans.
The PC and Macintosh versions were published in North America by Blizzard Entertainment in 1995 and in Europe by Ubisoft in 1996.
